How ECL Verified repairers are checked
ECL explains the fault first. If you then ask for repair help, we only match your request with a repairer who has passed our checks, covers your area and works on the type of appliance and job involved.
What ECL checks before a repairer can join
Who they are
We check the business and named contact details so we know who is behind the service.
Insurance
We require current public liability insurance that meets the ECL minimum.
Experience and qualifications
We review what appliances, brands and types of work they actually do, plus relevant training or certificates.
Customer protection
We check pricing information, terms, complaints handling, references and public reputation.
Some jobs need extra proof
For ordinary appliance repairs, the core ECL checks may be enough. For work where UK rules require a registration or certificate, the repairer must also have the right current proof for that job.
Gas work
If the job involves gas work, ECL can require current Gas Safe business and engineer details that cover the type of work involved.
Refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps
If the job involves refrigerant covered by F-gas rules, ECL can require the relevant company and engineer certificates.
Fixed electrical work
If the job involves fixed electrical installation work that needs an approved scheme, ECL can require the right current electrical registration.
Brand training
Manufacturer training and proven brand experience can also be used when they matter for a particular repair.
We keep checking after they join
ECL monitors completed jobs, customer reviews, complaints and whether important checks such as insurance are still current. If something important expires or a serious quality concern is raised, a repairer can be put under review or removed from matching.
Reviews marked Verified ECL repair can only come from a real repair request recorded through ECL and marked completed.
What the badge means — and what it does not
ECL Verified means the repair business passed our published checks and remains subject to ongoing monitoring. It is not a government licence and it cannot guarantee that every repair will be successful.
Where a job needs an official registration or qualification, we check that separately rather than treating the ECL badge as a replacement for it.
Run a repair business?
You can apply to join the ECL Verified network. Applying does not make the business live — ECL checks the information first.
